  • Bloomfield Apple Festival 2009 Press Release:

    The 40th Anniversary of the Bloomfield Apple Festival will start on Friday, October 2, 2009, at 9:00 AM. Throughout the weekend, the Bloomfield Park will be filled with food, crafts and a variety of vendors. Entertainment includes: Sheila Stephen and the Rodeo Monkeys, Silverado, Bruce Borders and the City Council Band (sponsored by UDWI REMC), a gospel group, Crimson Cross Quartet from Paris IL (sponsored by PARAGONFORCE, INC), and 5 local groups, Sheriff Terry Pierce & Friends, Falling Backwards, Cheap Suits, Nail Driven and Surreal. The Bloomfield High School band, jazz band and choral groups will also be performing. Come observe chain-saw carving and blacksmithing demonstrations and take part in the Athletic Department sponsored corn hole contest. The commemorative water bottle celebrating The Shawnee Theater’s 50th anniversary and the 40th anniversary of the Bloomfield Apple Festival will be available for purchase at the Walnut Grove Spring Water Stand, the Lion’s Club Stand and at the Information Stand. The “Cruise-in on the Square” will begin registration at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2009, on the south and west sides of the square with the event running from 1-5 PM. The 5 K Run/Walk registration begins at 9 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Bloomfield Library with the run/walk starting at 10 AM. Entries for the Art Show will be accepted on Thursday, October 1, 2009 from 2:30-8:00 PM. Judging will take place on Friday, October 2 and the viewing of the art will be on Friday from 2:30 – 6:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM. The Apple Festival Parade begins at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 4, 2009. The theme this year is “Rewind to 1969”. Grand Marshals will be the former Bloomfield Jaycees who were instrumental in starting the 1969 Bloomfield Apple Festival and keeping it going for a great number of years. Vendor site applications can be obtained by calling Judy Branstetter, 384-3245 and parade entry forms can be obtained by calling Kris Jarman, 384-3637.
